WHAT THEY’RE SAYING (Select Writeups/Reviews):
Head over to his Bandcamp and show support.
If you tuned in for AWKWORD‘s first Booth feature, Doctor Doctor, you already know that the Big Apple repper’s all about his Bars & Hooks. On feature numero dos, the latest single off his forthcoming full-length, the emcee recruits a few equally dedicated neighbors—namely Sean Price, The Kid Daytona and The Incomparable Shakespeare—to drop hard-hitting verses over a smooth, flute-laced beat by Harry Fraud. Digging it? Then stay tuned for further details on AWKWORD’s World View LP, set to drop in 2012, with proceeds going to the Aim to Live charity.
It’s all about bars and hooks… AWKWORD is the brain, heart and soul behind World View, a global Hip-Hop project for charity, being released in 2012! Call it a revolution! Backed by the smooth sounds of Harry Fraud, AWKWORD rounds up fellow industry peers in Sean Price and The Kid Daytona for the mission with The Incomparable Shakespeare handling chorus duties!
After introducing himself to RefinedHype Nation with “Doctor, Doctor”, NYC representer AWKWORD is back with some simply dope “Bars & Hooks (Keep It Moving)”. There’s a lot to dig here. The Harry Fraud beat is solidly fundamental and The Incomparable Shakespeare delivers a nice hook, but ultimately this is a rappity rap track, so the real highlights are the rappity raps.
Seriously, I can’t remember the last time three emcees got on a track and all followed the same format – on “Two Words” they didn’t even last two verses – but Sean Price, AWKWORD and The Kid Daytona all come through with a variation of “I ain’t been the same since I ate paint chips” and “excessive e pills give you Christopher Walken mouth.” I’d love to know the story behind that, maybe AWK will fill us in below in the comments (hint, hint).
As a bonus, this is good music for a good cause. All proceeds from this track and AWK’s “World View” album, dropping in 2012, go to global hip-hop charity Aim to Live.

Oh, maaaan…this track is hot. I mean look at that title! AWKWORD recruits a few dope emcees such as, Sean Price, The Kid Daytona and Incomparable Shakespeare for “Bars & Hooks”, a track produced by Harry Fraud. “Bars & Hooks” serves as AWKWORD’s newest single off World View, the first 100% for-charity Hip-Hop project.

“AWKWORD’s “Doctor Doctor” is Too Ill to be Saved” – A Refined Hype World Premier!!!…

Select Reviews:
Every rapper claims to keep it real, but most are so lost in fantasy they don’t even know their own reality anymore. Not AWKWORD. A New York City emcee who’s dedicated himself to the lost art of pre-Giuliani hip-hop, everything you need to know about the man’s music is contained in new single “Doctor, Doctor”. Making its world premiere on RefinedHype, in addition to a subtly addictive beat from MajoR R.E. and a guest verse from GuessWho?, “Doctor, Doctor” is the kind of rap that’s not afraid to truly let listeners inside.
“Doctor, Doctor” is off AWKWORD’s upcoming album “World View”, which has a dope background: all proceeds from the album, which includes features from Joell Ortiz, KRS-One and more, will go to Aim to Live, a 501c3-registered nonprofit dedicated to educating and empowering urban youth. Fucks yeah, it’s bigger than hip-hop.
Don’t let the stage name fool you—when it comes to rocking the mic, Booth newcomer AWKWORD is anything but. As proof, I present the NYC repper’s current single, Doctor Doctor; premiered over on RefinedHype, this record finds Malaysian beatsmith MajoR R.E. cooking up a funky, sampled beat to back AWK and guest emcee GuessWho as they demonstrate just how ill (both literally and figuratively) they are. Digging it? Keep it locked for all the latest tunes leading up to the arrival of World View in 2012.
Here’s another cut from AWKWORD’s World View album; if you missed the Refined Hype premiere of this, for shame. Without creating alters, AWK breaks down his ills to the doctor on this one, with GuessWho? alongside for the ride. I do this a lot, but usually inside my own mind, or in text via twitter… or this blog. We all have problems and stress, it’s just in how you handle that shit. Real talk on this one, with beats from Malaysia. Malaysia! Hip-Hop is global, pricks!
I have seen this name floating out there for some time. This is my first time really sitting down to listen to Awkword though. I like what I hear from this single off his yet to be released album, World View. Therapy music…
Crazy fat swollen shouts to AWKWORD and Guess Who… for this ill joint. Recognize the realness or fall back!
